The staff were, to a person, pleasant and helpful; the setting is amazing; the room was very clean and comfortable; and, the breakfast was yummy! Our stay was a complete treat... one night was not enough.
It was not just a stay but an entire experience from the time you arrive at the front gate until the minute you leave. I cannot fault it in any way and would encourage anyone who is going to the area to do yourself a favour and book in
Fabulous location with great views. Fascinating room......bed created from an old wagon. Well appointed bathroom with large bath though the shower could have been more powerful. Great experience eating dinner in the castle but though the menu was good the execution was disappointing.
The experience is great. I like the dinner at which people from different countries eat together, chat and listen to the castle stories. Great! The castle and garden is just beautiful.
The ability to visit the castle and grounds as part of the accommodation costs, especially be able to walk round the gardens after other visitors had left.
The weather on the first day was awful!
Just one little thing, woman (staff) with pierced tongue first asked if we needed" help with our luggage, and when I said "If you could, thank you" (because of my back pain), she suggested there is a lift next to the room, to this I said we'll be fine then". I found out after she left that the lift is permanently closed, with screws & metal sheet. I wonder why did she has to offer help in the first place. This however, is not a reflection to other staff members, who were really friendly & courteous.
We really enjoyed our stay at Larnach Lodge, the food was excellent, staff very obliging and friendly. The atmosphere was very appealing. The room was very warm and cosy. The grounds are very interesting to walk around even thou it was snowing. We would like to come again in the near future. Cheers.
Dinner in the main lodge was excellent and good value for such a quality meal. The dining room was a unique experience
Beware of sloping roof in stables bedroom -but be prepared to live with it as it is part of the unique ambience
Rooms are great, view is amazing
it was very cold, especially during breakfast time
Our room was wonderful, very classy. Bedding was very comfortable. Check in was easy and quick. Breakfast was great. Grounds and castle were outstanding. Milk in the rooms for morning coffee. Bath was elegant.
We waited for about 40 minutes to be seated for dinner, standing with no comfortable seating area in the castle family dining room. Dinner was served very slowly, with some waiting twenty minutes or more for their starters or entrees. We were seated next to the head table and the table arrangement with a T put us where we had our backs to the people seated closest to us... the were at the head table.
We absolutely loved Larnach Lodge. To be staying in the grounds of a castle was a thrill! It was a magical experience that we will never forget. The room was clean and comfortable with amazing views of the Otago Penisula. We enjoyed sitting on our own private balcony, listening to the birds, watching the view and relaxing. The admission to the castle and grounds was included in the cost of the accommodation which was an added bonus. The story of the castle's renovation was inspiring and the castle itself was magnificent. We could have spent at least another day there. Breakfast was delicious with a huge variety and was set in the stable block - a delightful experience!!
The staff were super helpful with information on the area and anything that you wanted to do. Being hikers they were able to point us to many tracks in the vicinity that they rated - and they were as good as they advised us. The home and gardens were really lovely and the dinner in the dining room was lovely. The food was as good as any other restaurant and we were lucky enough to have a table of people that we got along with for the evening.
Everything - It was absolutely amazing and the staff were so attentive and helpful. I have recommended to all I know and will definitely come back for another stay.
We were staying in the stables and this isn't a gripe at all as the atmosphere was great - but, certain items could do with a little updating like the tv (I haven't seen rabbit ears on a tv in years) and the duvet covers and lighting. The shower and toilet were shared between the various rooms, so this place would really suit a group of couples or friends that all want to hang out, but have separate sleeping quarters.
Beautiful dinning with other guests
Staying in the lodge rooms at a Castle that entitled you to wonder around the Castle grounds, have an exclusive dinner inside the castle, entry into the castle and having breakfast in the Stables. We really loved it all. Plus the wonderful sea views too.
